PodoCut

MULTI-CAMERA PODCAST EDITING FOR DAVINCI RESOLVE

Stop cutting between speakers.

PodoCut hears who is talking and cuts between your angles, inside Resolve, on your own machine. Ninety minutes of multicam in about four.

  • Cuts on who is actually speaking, from the mic audio you already have.
  • Unused shots are disabled, never deleted — the edit stays yours to adjust.
  • Runs entirely on your machine. No footage is uploaded anywhere.

A replica of the PodoCut panel while a cut is running. The panel lists three speakers — Speaker 1, Speaker 2 and Speaker 3 — each with its own colour, and three camera tracks, V1 to V3, each assigned to one of them. In front of it, a progress window reads “Cutting — 154 of 248 segments”, 62 per cent complete, with a bar filling in the speakers’ colours.

Somebody has to sit there and cut between three people talking.

A ninety-minute conversation is roughly two hundred and fifty cuts. It is not difficult work and it is not creative work, but it takes an afternoon, and it has to happen before the edit that actually matters can start.

COMPATIBILITY

It works on the free edition of Resolve.

Most tools that automate Resolve need Studio, because Resolve only lets outside programs connect on the paid edition. PodoCut runs inside Resolve instead, from the Scripts menu, in its own window. The free edition is enough.

If you already own Studio, nothing changes — it works there too.

HOW IT WORKS

Three steps, then it runs.

  1. Name your speakers

One row per person. Each gets a colour that follows them through the assignment, the audio and the finished timeline.

  2. Point each camera at one

PodoCut reads the mic audio already on your timeline. Linked and synced mics are picked for you.

  3. Press Create

It listens, then cuts. Watch the timeline fill in, or uncheck that and let it run as fast as your machine allows.

AFTER — CUT BY SPEAKER

Two timeline strips. Before: three unbroken camera tracks, V1 to V3, with no cuts in them. After: a single track made of fourteen alternating runs in the three speakers’ colours, one run for each time the speaker changes.

CONTROL

It cannot lose your work.

Every cut it makes is a cut you can undo, adjust or throw away. The edit stays yours.

Nothing is deleted
Unused shots are disabled on their own tracks. Every angle is still there, still in sync, ready to be switched back on.
It backs up first
If you ask it to cut the timeline you are already working in, a full copy of the project is saved before it touches anything.
You set the pace
Calm, balanced or punchy — longer takes with fewer cuts, or tighter takes with more. Change it and run again.
Stacked or flattened
Keep every camera on its own track for fine-tuning, or get one flat video track if you are handing the edit on.

PRIVACY

Your footage never leaves the room.

No upload, no queue, no cloud processing. PodoCut reads your audio on your own machine and writes the timeline back into your own project. The only thing that touches the network is your sign-in.

Which means an unreleased episode, an embargoed interview or anything under NDA never has to go anywhere.

Licence terms

Questions people ask first.

Do I need Resolve Studio?

No. PodoCut works on the free edition of DaVinci Resolve and on Studio. Most tools like it require Studio; this one runs inside Resolve rather than connecting from outside, which is what makes the difference.

Which platforms?

Windows today. A macOS build is in development — if you are on a Mac, join the list rather than buying.

How many machines?

Two, for one person, not at the same time. A desktop and a laptop is the intended case.

Do updates cost extra?

No. Updates are free, including new versions.

Will it touch my existing timeline?

Only if you choose that option. When you do, it saves a full backup of the project first. By default it creates a new timeline and leaves yours alone.

What about my mic setup?

It reads the audio already on your timeline. Linked or synced mics are detected automatically; if a mic lives somewhere else you can point at a track or a file. It only needs to line up in time with the picture.

What if it does not work for me?

Write to us within 14 days of buying and we will refund it. There is no trial, so the refund is how you try it.

Is my footage uploaded anywhere?

No. Detection and cutting happen on your machine. The only network request PodoCut makes is signing you in.
